Joan White began her yoga studies in 1968 and was among B.K.S. Iyengar's first North American students. She has made over 20 trips to India to study with Mr. Iyengar and his family. Joan is certified by Mr. Iyengar at the Advanced Junior level. She became the first Chair of Certification for the Iyengar Yoga National Association (IYNAUS) in 1986.
In 2008, Joan was chosen by IYNAUS to receive the first Lighting the Way award "for her tireless service as Chair of the Certification Committee and for the invaluable contributions she made to the excellence of the Iyengar Yoga certification process.”
Regularly teaching at her studio in Philadelphia, Joan also conducts nationwide workshops and teacher training. She instructs with a clarity and directness that reflect the depth of her knowledge and personal practice.
